Awkward silence

Here it is the eleventh hour in New York and after 8 pm in Phoenix, and the Village Voice Media website has yet to acknowledge the Pulitzer won by the chain's own Jonathan Gold. It's not like the New Times guys aren't into awards — they devote many web pages to the lesser honors won by their papers. VVM editor in chief Michael Lacey did tell AP that "If I had cigars, I'd be passing them out right now," and Gold joked: "Maybe it means they won't fire me this year."

Earlier: Pulitzer for Jonathan Gold
