Mike Penner's column announcing his transition to Christine Daniels is already one of the most viewed LATimes.com stories of the past year, the paper says today in an interview with the sports writer. In the story, she says most of the response has been supportive: "Writing that piece, which I didn't initially want to write, ended up becoming one of the best things I have ever done," Daniels said. "And a day I dreaded all my life has ended up being one of the best days I've ever had." She has been dressing full time as Christine since January and takes hormones, but has not disclosed plans for a sex-change operation. The story by James Rainey discloses that when Daniels returns from vacation she will write a blog about Southern California sports for LATimes.com and possibly also write about her transformation under the banner "Woman in Progress." Daniels so far is turning down other media requests.
