Antonio in the Garden of Telemundo

The Sunday Viewpoint cartoon showing Mayor Villaraigosa frolicking naked with Mirthala Salinas in the "Garden of Telemundo" is now online at the Daily News website. That's Cardinal Roger Mahony as the snake in the tree.

* Also today: Under questioning at a news conference, Villaraigosa confirmed that he and "Senorita Salinas" speak daily and he again defended her journalism ethics:

"I continue to have the utmost respect and confidence in the journalistic abilities and the high ethical standards of Mirthala Salinas....I can tell you that I believe that if this [Telemundo] investigation addresses all of the issues here, including the fact that she made it absolutely clear the extent of the relationship that we have, that I expect she'll be vindicated....She's been nominated for three Emmys, she's received two Emmys - not one; she has four Golden Mikes, not one -- maybe five!"

The mayor's jaunty demeanor slowly changed as he was peppered by questions of a personal nature -- whether he is still seeing Salinas, whether he discussed the inquiry with her and, perhaps most jarring, whether he intends to wed her.

"That's precisely why I've said from the beginning that when you answer questions like that, they get more and more personal," Villaraigosa said. "Let me be clear: I announced that I have a relationship with Ms. Salinas, and we continue to have a relationship."

"I'm certainly not going to propose to you or through you," Villaraigosa told a reporter.
