Mirthala's new assignment

If Mirthala Salinas stays with Telemundo Channel 52 it will be as the station's general assignment news chaser in the Inland Empire, not as the star political reporter and sometime anchor she was before her affair with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa became public. The staff in Burbank was told of the reassignment today.

Telemundo executives want to send Salinas to the Inland Empire office to avoid any further conflict of interest for her and the station, the sources said. Both Salinas and her supervisors came under intense criticism after it was revealed that she had covered Villaraigosa as a political reporter while they dated....

Station executives also were concerned about shielding Salinas from lingering animosity toward her in the newsrooms of KVEA and its sister station, KNBC Channel 4, which share the same Burbank facility.

Salinas, due to return from her two months suspension next Monday, was reportedly mulling whether to accept the demotion.
