During today's discussion of the expansion at Holy Cross hospital in the Northeast Valley, Councilman Richard Alarcon made City Hall reporters sit up in their chairs and look at each other. Alarcon got their attention by allowing that he and his new wife, Flora Montes de Oca, hadn't decided if they were going to have their baby at Holy Cross. A lot of people in the council chambers weren't aware the Alarcons were expecting.

Noted: The council adjourned today in memory of longtime UCLA sociology professor Melvin Pollner, who I'm told is the father of former City Hall hand Leslie Pollner. She was the council staffer who last year married Times City Hall reporter Noam Levey. They now work in Washington.
