Around LA Observed

No fooling...

  • Adrienne Crew is the newest contributor to Native Intelligence, this week offering up her L.A. news recap for the DVR generation. Earlier Adrienne chased the rumor that the Writers Guild had a portrait of famed wit Dorothy Parker and posted on the segregated history of Santa Monica's Ink Well Beach. Adrienne writes the smart events blog L.A. Brain Terrain, used to write for LAist and is the author of "Blogosphere: Best of Blogs" by Que Books.
  • LA Biz Observed impresario Mark Lacter's posts today covered the Pellicano trial, Sam Zell, March Madness ratings and the layoffs at KCBS-KCAL. Mark also contributes weekly to KPCC and regularly to Los Angeles magazine and Inc., and blogs on the legal business as The Daily Dragon for Lawdragon.
  • Bill Boyarsky blogs that the Times doesn't need Sam Zell's Viagra, but rather "journalists who can go to work each day without worrying about looking for a new job or whether they'll wind up with any money in the Employee Stock Ownership Program that Zell used to buy Tribune." Bill, also a columnist at Truthdig.com, reviews ex-Speaker Willie Brown's book over there.
  • Erika Schickel wrote at Native Intelligence that she "sobbed and bawled and gulped" as she drove away from Sunday's last party at Dutton's.
  • TJ Sullivan at Native Intelligence was struck by those TV commercials for drugs that warn you about that favorite L.A. pastime, driving while asleep.
  • Phil Wallace at SoCal Sports Observed enjoyed his Saturday evening with the Dodgers at the Coliseum so much he writes "Whoever thought of this idea should be given a promotion and a raise."
  • Jenny Burman blogs today at Chicken Corner about birding in Echo Park and Dodger Stadium traffic.
  • For April Fool's Day, Veronique de Turenne breaks the news that Google is buying Malibu. They got a good price.
  • Look for new pages tomorrow in the LA Observed Script Project, the reader collaborative concept the L.A. Times liked so much it stole the idea.
  • I was Q-and-A'd today at LAist by Jeremy Oberstein, who asked about Sam Zell, LA Observed, my blog reading and a little of my background. Run-on sentences are mine, any typos his.
