Times publisher David Hiller invited staffers by email to drop in and say goodbye. He praises his executive assistant, Caroline Thorpe, who has worked with LAT publishers since Otis Chandler.

Subject: One more thing before I go....

Folks,

I will try to get around and say so long and thanks in person, but also please feel free to stop by for punch and cookies with Caroline and me today any time between 3 and 6 pm. A lot of my afternoon has freed up :-).

Speaking of Caroline Thorpe, I want to repeat what you all know - Caroline is one of the world's great people and a treasure of The Times. I have said only half jokingly, and now even less so, they should just make Caroline the publisher and be done with it.

Hope to see you later.

David
