Legend of Barbara Bain's dog shrinks

Though Herald Examiner fans love the tale of a Sunday Los Angeles Times crushing Barbara Bain's dog in the 80s, a former Times staffer who I know sends along an email that dumps cold water on the story.

I met Barbara Bain at a party not too long ago. When I told her I worked at The Times, she made a point of telling me the story of her dog. The dog was not killed by a heavy newspaper. It was off its leash, ran into the street, and was hit by a Times delivery truck. She insisted that it was her fault alone and that she never sought damages from The Times. She called the HerEx story completely erroneous.

Hmm, I wonder what was in that file in the Times historical archives?
