Former sportscaster Lisa Guerrero has been given an outlet on The Fabulous Forum, the sports blog at LATimes.com. In this morning's post, she says it may be time for the Angels to retire their rally monkey tradition — and gets a bit political:

On Saturday, John McCain’s rally monkey, Sarah Palin, popped up in Carson. Fresh off of her victory over herself at the debate, her campaign let Palin out of the cage to rev up the fan base.

Only problem was that, according to an Associated Press analysis, the lady maverick made some “racially tinged” remarks about Barack Obama. Someone might want to inform Sarah that although comments like that may play well in Wasilla, here in Southern California we celebrate diversity along with divisional championships.

She got the blog gig after writing a letter to LAT Sports Editor Randy Harvey called "Does this column make my butt look big?" It actually objected to a T.J. Simers column about her husband, former big league pitcher Scott Erickson.

Add Guerrero: Couple of years back she did a Playboy photo spread.

Gotta love corrections of corrections: From a For the Record in the Times, "Robert Steinberg photo correction: A correction on Wednesday said the caption accompanying the obituary of chocolate maker Robert Steinberg in Sunday's California section had transposed the names of the two men in the photo. In fact, the original caption was correct: Steinberg is at left; his business partner, John Scharffenberger, is at right."

As newspapers and television pull back from investigative reporting, foundations and other organizations are beginning to fill the void. One of the most interesting is Accountable California, a project of Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union.
