StallWord from Sacramento is that Bill Stall, the Los Angeles Times' Pulitzer-winning editorial writer, died today after suffering from emphysema. The Times is working on an obituary, and colleague Karin Klein has a nice post up at Opinion L.A. (with the photo.) Stall won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004 (the year the Times won five) for his penetrating editorials about state government. One of the last of the old hands in Sacramento journalism, he covered the Capitol for Associated Press then served as press secretary and director of public affairs for Gov. Jerry Brown. Stall joined the Times as a reporter in 1976, was a Metro editor and reporter in the Washington bureau, and did two stints as an editorial writer.
