Sam Sayyad, the husband of Rep. Hilda Solis, paid $6,400 this week to settle small Los Angeles County tax liens against his auto business dating to 1993, USA Today reported. With that in the air, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee called off Thursday's vote on her nomination be Labor secretary. The White House continued to defend her, while as Capitol Alert observed, "If Solis were not to be confirmed, there would be a ripple effect through L.A. politics and up to Sacramento. Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, and Board of Equalization member Judy Chu, a Democrat, are already jockeying to replace Solis and are lining up factions of Los Angeles politicos." Capitol Alert, Capitol Weekly, Wash Post

Add politics: Former Speaker Fabian Núñez filed the paperwork to create a fundraising committee to run for the Cedillo seat in 2010.

And: City Controller Laura Chick came out against Measure B, the solar measure on the L.A. ballot.
