Whitman makes it official

Former EBay Chief Executive Meg Whitman, who is 52, announced today that she'll be a Republican candidate for governor next year. Former Gov. Pete Wilson will be her campaign chairman. That makes Whitman, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and possibly former Northern California Rep. Tom Campbell on the Republican side. The Democrats so far will mull between Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and maybe even Sen. Dianne Feinstein. LAT, DN, Bee
