Top Carmen Trutanich adviser (and future City Hall East staffer?) Jane Usher sent a letter to the new City Attorney-elect's supporters thanking them and urging them to be patient with the new guy.

Dear Friends and Colleagues --

So much to say. So little coherence after that very short night's sleep. But here are a few messages that I would like to share now, with clarity to follow in the coming weeks!

1. Congratulations first and foremost to Nuch. His persistence in the face of millions of dollars worth of criticism and intimidation stands as a heroic model for me. Our own Paul Bunyan figure for the 21st century. These kudos also belong to Nuch's family, especially Noreen and Nick, who lead with brains, beauty, and Nuch's same never-say-no spirit.

2. Thank you to Nuch's campaign all-stars. John Shallman for sheer talent, plus the incredible focus and savvy that the rest of us lacked. Barry and Bill for their ever-present and very welcome moral compass. Alice, Maria, and Cindie for their tireless willingness to wage the fundraising battle. Linda, Mort, John, Dan, Steve, Nic, and Commander Franklin for the daily labors that make up a winning campaign. I owe Steve Cooley a lunch at the Water Grill (yes, his prediction of the final vote count was far closer than mine). But the truth is that none of us will ever be able to repay this team for their yeoman's effort.

3. But you know where my heart is. I reserve the biggest thanks of all to the grassroots community leaders that felled Goliath last night. You are the engine, the cars, the conductor, the cabin, the coal, and the caboose of this little engine that could. It will surely take time for the magnitude of what you accomplished to reveal itself. Just know that Nuch will not let you down.

Nuch will find his own graceful way to work with and transform City Hall. It will require all of us to be patient and let him make his way. But do not go away for even a minute. Be loud and unruly in your suggestions and ideas. After all, you are the eyes, ears, arms, and legs that will make change happen.

Much love and admiration, Jane
