Krekorian well ahead in 2nd CD *

State assemblyman Paul Krekorian has a 2,000 vote lead over Christine Essel with 37% of the precincts counted, but that percentage could be misleading. Most of the votes were cast in the 2nd district by mail, and nearly all of those have been counted. Of the 5,500 or so votes that are probably still out there, Essel would have to get at least 3,750, or beat Krekorian more than 2 to 1. So far, she's losing 57% to 42%. Do the math.

* 11:20 update: Krekorian increased his lead to 2,300 votes as the percentage of precincts counted jumped to 62%. Good night.

Or, to put it another way: The Daily News might want to learn real quick how to spell Krekorian:

11:31 final bulletin from City Clerk:

Krekorian 10,810... 56.56%
Essel 8,304... 43.44%

100% of precincts reporting. Turnout 15.35% of eligible voters.
