Election results at a glance

Little matters less on election night than early results; since the statewide count is still at about 36% I won't bother with numbers. But in many races we know what happened. Here's a quick look at the post-election world:

U.S. Senate
Barbara Boxer - D vs Carly Fiorina - R

Will this finally end Tom Campbell's quest to get conservative Republicans to vote for him? Fiorina looks as if she'll top Campbell and Chuck DeVore combined. Among Democrats, blogger Mickey Kaus' run-for-office phase loses 3 to 1 — to Brian Quintana.

Governor
Jerry Brown - D vs. Meg Whitman - R

Those polls showing Whitman way, way, way ahead of Steve Poizner? They were right.

Lt. Governor
Abel Maldonado - R vs. Gavin Newsom - D

Janice Hahn will win Los Angeles County, but Newsom will win most everywhere else. Maldonado might be over 50% by the time it's over.

Attorney General
Steve Cooley - R vs. Kamala Harris - D

Cooley could end up beating John Eastman even in Orange County. As for Rocky Delgadillo's alleged political career, he'll finish the night looking up at Harris, of course — and Chris Kelly and Ted Lieu and Alberto Torrico and Pedro Nava.

Secretary of State
Debra Bowen - D vs. Damon Dunn - R
Controller
John Chiang - D vs. Tony Strickland - R
Treasurer
Bill Lockyer - D vs Mimi Walters - R
Insurance Commissioner
Dave Jones - D vs Mike Villines or Brian Fitzgerald - R
