Democrats change up the venue for election night

When President Obama won two years ago, local Democrats rocked the Century Plaza ballroom and lobby — and lined up around the block outside to get inside and join the party. A far less festive mood is expected Tuesday night, and the Dems are also going for a new venue. They will be at the Renaissance Hotel at Hollywood and Highland. The main soiree, hosted by the county Democratic Party, is expected to draw Sen. Barbara Boxer, Speaker John Perez and down-ballot Dems, but not Jerry Brown or Kamala Harris. (The official party email does mention labor leader Maria Elena Durazo, however.) On the Republican side, Steve Cooley's people say he'll be celebrating (or not) at the Beverly Hilton. The big SoCal Republican gathering will be in Orange County at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.
