Harris' lead cracks 30,000 again

This afternoon's update of the attorney general count gave Kamala Harris a lead of 30,730 votes over Steve Cooley. That's up a little from yesterday. Some may wonder if we keep such a close eye on the count thinking about the ramifications on state policy or prosecutions or three strikes or some other issue that the eventual AG will influence. Uh, not really. The compelling L.A. angle is that if Cooley goes to Sacramento, there will be some interesting politics as prospective successors as L.A. County District Attorney work the Board of Supervisors for an appointment. And angle for advantage in the next DA election. All the required side-taking by politicos, lawyers and special interests promises to be muy entertaining. Or not, if Cooley loses and stays on Temple Street.

Typing up another loose end: Meg Whitman agreed Wednesday to provide former housekeeper Nicky Diaz Santillan with $5,500 in unpaid wages. AP
