Only 8% of online Americans use Twitter

Almost 3 in 4 U.S. adults say they are Internet users, and of that group 8% say they use Twitter, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project. More findings from the study:

  • Women on the net are more likely to use Twitter than men
  • Only 2% of adults online use Twitter on a typical day
  • Adults under 29 use Twitter much more than those older
  • Latinos and blacks who are online use Twitter much more than whites
  • One-quarter of Twitter users check others' tweets multiple times per day, while one in five never check for new material
