Memo to LAT: Try naked pics

Well, semi-naked anyway. Lindsay Lohan plays Marilyn Monroe for fashion photographer Bert Stern in his NY magazine fashion spread. It's based on Stern's classic photos of Marilyn Monroe at the Hotel Bel-Air in 1962 (often dubbed "The Last Sitting”). Six weeks after she posed, Monroe was found dead of an apparent barbiturate overdose. This week's Lohan spread was such an online hit that the magazine's servers crashed. Always aiming to please, Gawker pulled down a few of the shots just to ease the load, calling them "the embodiment of oh-so-many media trends!" that includes "the 'trend' of serious news outlets exploiting pop culture for massive clicks while still maintaining their 'smart' cred." The selection of Lohan seems a little too smart.
