Only 300 of them showed up for a membership meeting in Bev Hills, according to Variety, which isn't much of a crowd considering that there are more than 120,000 members of the Screen Actors Guild. SAG President Alan Rosenberg and Executive Director Doug Allen, who were both well-received, outlined four key hurdles in working out a deal with the studios and networks, among them whether the consent of actors should be required when posting clips of their work on the Internet. SAG says yes (as does AFTRA in its separate contract talks), and the media companies say no. No talk of a strike authorization vote came up during the meeting, according to Variety - an interesting omission for a union that's taking such an aggressive negotiating stance. As we've been saying for some time, the real question is whether most of the union's rank and file will be willing to walk when the contract expires in a little over a month.
