The Polanski case

Check out YouTube for the excellent documentary “Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired,” which is being cited in the director's request to dismiss the molestation case against him. Polanski fled the United States before his sentencing for statutory rape 30 years ago. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21. From the NYT:

Tuesday’s filing said the now-deceased Judge Laurence J. Rittenband, who handled the case, intentionally violated a plea agreement with Mr. Polanski after having engaged in what it called “repeated unethical and unlawful ex parte communications” with a deputy district attorney who was not involved in the prosecution, but was independently advising the judge. They described on-camera interviews with the deputy, David Wells, by the documentary’s director, Marina Zenovich.

The documentary includes great footage of 1970s Los Angeles and the role of local media (seems like a long time ago). Among those interviewed was the woman who says she had been molested by Polanski when she was 13.
