DaVita, which has been based in El Segundo and operates kidney dialysis clinics in 43 states, will be moving its corporate headquarters to Denver. That leaves only 13 Fortune 500 companies in L.A. County. The company is moving because of the cost savings (the state of Colorado has promised financial incentives) and a more central location. Only 250 of 32,000 employees are in El Segundo, but for business boosters the loss of another corporation is bound to sting. From the Business Journal:

The company, which considered four states, expects to see cost savings over time due to the lower cost of doing business and lower cost of living in the Denver area, which is home to 11 other Fortune 500 companies. DaVita also has large business offices in Washington state, Florida and Tennessee, and Chase also pointed to geographic and time zone advantages to be located further east.
