Big jump in stocks

Right before the closing bell, the Dow was up more than 220 points, to over 8700. Boeing and United Technologies were among the big manufacturers that did especially well. More positive economic signs may have played a role in the big gain, but let's not forget about the paltry returns in the bond market.
