Replacing the once-powerhouse corporations on the Dow Jones Industrial Average are Travelers Cos. and Cisco Systems Inc. Bankruptcy is an automatic disqualifier to be on the benchmark index. GM has been a Dow component for 83 years. Change takes effect next week.
