Twitter serves purpose

At last, the telegraphic platform comes in handy. Last night's power outage on the Westside prompted the Department of Water and Power folks to tweet occasional updates on what had happened, the number of customers impacted, and the percentage of power being restored. The missives weren't all that informative, but if you were at a dead stop on Santa Monica Boulevard or even in your dark house it was a lot better than trying to phone the DWP. Of course, I only became aware of the updates by listening to KNX, which followed the blackout story pretty closely throughout the evening.
