Into the 20th Century

Boy, those Copley folks really were slow on the uptake. Or perhaps they were just cheap? In any event, the SD Union-Tribune finally scraps its old-fashioned paste-up production for a souped-up pagination system. It's the last major U.S. metro to put its pages together by hand. Wowser. Apparently, Copley had planned to make the move before the family-run company was sold to Bev Hills-based Platinum Equity. When Platinum came in, getting the paginated system in place was one of its first priorities. (Newspapers & Technology via Romenesko)
