*No word on cable war

At last check, Time Warner Cable and Fox were still working on a new contract that would keep Channel 11 on the air. Last night, with the midnight deadline drawing near, Fox agreed to a three-hour extension in the talks. More than three hours have gone by and the Fox channels are still on, so it's presumed that both sides have made at least some progress in resolving the dispute. In a nutshell, Fox is demanding a fee for its programming - about $1 per subscriber, according to news reports. Time Warner had been countering at about 30 cents. Negotiations are taking place at the Fox studios in Century City.

*WSJ reports that the two sides are nearing an agreement that could be announced later today. Meantime, the Fox channels are still on Time Warner systems.
