Toyota resumes sales

The carmakers had suspended sales of eight models, including the Camry and Corolla, because of concerns over the sudden acceleration issue. Sounds like dealers are being told to repair the pedal parts on the new cars. But Toyota has yet to make any official announcement that the suspension has been lifted, another example of the odd and often confusing way in which the company is handling the crisis. From the LAT:

Dealers may sell a new car if the repair is made," said Mike Michels, a Toyota spokesman. "There is no single point in time when the stop sale would be lifted. It will be car by car."

Two Southern California dealers told the Times that they have completed several sales of vehicle affected by the recall and suspension. Sales resumed as the Japanese automaker said the global cost of the massive recalls to address the sudden acceleration problems would approach $2 billion.
