The L.A.-OC area has been ranked 25th among the nation's 52 largest metro areas in a catch-all category Gallup calls "well-being." San Jose was tops in the nation, followed by Washington, D.C., Raleigh, N.C., Minneapolis and SF. Vegas ranked last and NY. Here's how they ranked everybody:
The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index score measures for each city an average of six sub-indexes, which individually examine life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors, and access to basic necessities. The overall composite score and each of the six sub-indexes' scores are calculated on a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 represents fully realized well-being. Gallup and Healthways initiated the Well-Being Index in January 2008.
It's a little nutty, of course, but with L.A. being such a have- and have-not region, the 25th place position makes sense, kinda. Here's the list.
