Airport follies

airport.jpgEverything appears to be back to normal at LAX this morning after some jerk took off before his bag went through a secondary screening. About 15 flights were delayed, some for as long as two hours, as lines of passengers were kept outside several terminals for a while. Airport police located the man and re-screened his bag. In Denver, meanwhile, that Qatari diplomat who sneaked a smoke in an airplane restroom and then got cute when air marshalls confronted him was released Thursday morning. It took several hours before passengers were cleared.

Add LAX: Mayor Villaraigosa is asking airport officials to look into the FAA's safety concerns about the north airfield. All this comes just weeks after an extensive study minimized the dangers. Said Villaraigosa: "I continue to oppose a reconfiguration of the north airfield at LAX absent a clear demonstration that such a change is necessary to ensure the safety of passengers, workers and the surrounding community."
