Bill to ban West Coast drilling

California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein are joining with senators from Oregon and Washington on legislation that would permanently ban oil drilling off the West Coast. From Bloomberg:

The coastal-related economies of the three states are valued at $34 billion and support nearly 570,000 jobs, the senators said. "It is an economic support system for tourism, fishing, recreation," Boxer, chairwoman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, told reporters.

This measure is considered tougher than a bill introduced on Wednesday that's aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
