Hollywood strike averted

A deal was cut over the weekend by the studios and Teamsters Local 399, which represents drivers. The union agreed to 2 percent annual pay hikes (it was looking for 3 percent), and in return concessions were given on travel pay and meal compensation. Union members had been scheduled to take a strike authorization vote this morning, with the existing contract expiring Aug. 1. Instead, the deal was ratified with a 97 percent in-favor vote.
