Big bump in Thanksgiving air fares

The average round-trip fare over the holiday is up 10 percent from a year ago, according to Travelocity, but the jump might even be higher if travelers leave on a Tuesday and come back on a Sunday, the peak travel periods. Some carriers are tacking on surcharges for travel on the peak days. From USA Today:

During the recession, "People may have put Thanksgiving travels on the back burner, and it's possible this year they're ready to take those Thanksgiving trips again," says Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity's senior editor. "There's going to be a lot of competition for those lowest-priced seats, so it's important that people (book) as far ahead as possible and be as flexible as possible to get a decent fare."
