*Whitman looking for cover

First she says that neither she or her husband ever received a letter from the Social Security Administration about her housekeeper, Nicky Diaz Santillan, possibly using a fake ID. Then Whitman implies that the housekeeper might have pulled the letter out of the mail before the couple ever saw it. Then Gloria Allred releases the letter, which includes a note at the bottom that reads, "Nicky, please check this. Thanks." Then Whitman's husband declines to say whether he wrote the note. Now, reports the Weekly, the husband says it is "possible" he saw the letter. Talk about tap-dancing - badly. Who knows where this thing is headed, but the comments do seem be shifting every few hours, which isn't great. We're also getting to see Whitman in real time, without the help of pre-packaged sound bites and policy statements, and that's not looking too wonderful either.

*The tap-dancing continues. Here's the husband's statement via the LAT.
