Payroll employment fell by 63,500 jobs in September compared with the previous month, another sign that the state economy continues to take it on the chin. It was the largest drop in jobs of any state. Unemployment remained unchanged at 12.4 percent, the third-highest of any state (Nevada and Michigan are higher). Here's the BLS release.
