The Dow finishes down 39 points for the day, but that's a considerable improvement from the first hour of so of trading when the index fell below 11,000. It closed at 11,052. From Bloomberg:
"There's a lot of mixed currents," said John Kattar, chief investment officer at Eastern Investment Advisors in Boston, which manages $1.7 billion. "I'm encouraged that the market is showing some resilience after a disappointing day overall. Oil did not show any weakness and stocks are following. That against the backdrop of pretty good retail sales on Black Friday."
