The birds

A few days ago we were overtaken by a mega-flock of parrots, hundreds of them arriving in the garden in the late afternoon.

They were after something blooming in the conifers here--

And as they ate, they discussed and argued--

...in those parroty voices that sound like ripping sheet metal.


Until this hawk sailed by. Everyone went silent for a second, then flew away.
