New bike lane to debut on PCH in Malibu *

Good news for cyclists who have fought a long and dangerous battle with traffic on PCH -- a new 7-mile bike lane is set to open in the northern part of Malibu on Wednesday. The video (and lots more info) via LA Streetsblog, including links to more background on the ongoing -- and occasionally lethal -- struggle between bikes and cars on PCH.

* Matt Meyerhoff, the PIO for the city of Malibu, writes to clarify:

"...the project improved 7 miles of existing "bike route" (shared vehicle and bicycle traffic, designated by street signs saying "bike route" but no road striping), and created a 2-mile "bike lane" (a bike lane is a separate lane for cyclists only, designated by white road stripes and street signs), Malibu's first ever bike lane."

Thanks, Matt!
