Rest in peace, sweetest Daisy

Daisy practices mind control

Just terrible news here. The little black Lab was bitten by a snake and didn't survive. We are all devastated.

Guess who!

more feathers every day

OK yes, it's the hawk chick again, but he'll fly away soon and then I'll have to find something new to become obsessed with. (And yes -- apologies -- the video is kind of shaky.)

The Santa Monica Mountains after (I'm sorry -- what??) the rain

So yeah, it rained yesterday morning, and not just a leaky low-fog drizzle but full-on rainfall, and for a few hours. It's really kind of crazy for this time of year but considering the level of crazy we're already living through right now, in the end it seemed all of a piece.

Anyway, the result was some beautiful colors and beautiful light.

They grow up so fast

Here's the hawk chick the other day, waiting for a food delivery from his parents. He's getting his feathers and has already perfected the don't-mess-with-me thousand yard stare.

We went back to Bluffs Park today

In the two months since the parks and trails shut down to human traffic, the paths in Bluffs Park all but disappeared.

Happy Mother's Day!

Here's a mama hawk on guard near her nest. Such a voice.
(Just fyi the LAO website has become a bit slow and videos take a while to load.)
