LAX becoming bigger issue

The Daily Breeze's Ian Gregor says that Mayor Hahn's vision for L.A. International faces a new hurdle.

Mayor James Hahn’s $9 billion LAX modernization plan fails to fulfill its stated goals of constraining the airport and improving security, and focuses on protecting endangered butterflies at the expense of residents in nearby minority communities, according to a new Los Angeles County report obtained Wednesday by the Daily Breeze.

The report’s conclusions are significant for Hahn because county opposition to his LAX plan would require a super-majority of the Los Angeles City Council to pass it.

The whole LAX issue needs more reporting.

Hahn should be voted out of office for this brilliant one. Centralized intake to defeat potential terrorism? Duh. Let's gather all the passengers in one place and then only one big bomb will be needed!

What is interesting about LAX is that SCAG came last week with a new plan promoting the use of airports in the Inland Empire, promoting building of MAGLEV trains connecting them (and looking for more tax money to finance them).

All the area newspapers reported about this - the LA Daily News, the LB Press Telegram, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and the Press Enterprise, as well as the SD Union Tribune and NBC4 - but not LAT nor the Orange County Register.
