Polk Awards to LAT

A team of L.A. Times reporters won a George Polk Award in economics reporting today for their series on the global impact of Wal-Mart. The reporters are Nancy Cleeland, Abigail Goldman, Evelyn Iritani and Tyler Marshall. LAT photographer Carolyn Cole won the photojournalism award for her pictures last year from Iraq and Liberia.

A former LAT reporter now at the New York Times, Somini Sengupta, won in foreign reporting for stories she filed from West Africa.
