The Razzies

Cathy Seipp's "Media Circus" column in Citybeat this week traces the history of the Razzies, the Golden Raspberry Awards, which were started by a friend of hers from UCLA. The annual ceremony is Saturday in Santa Monica.

Cathy has so many friends I can't keep track of them. I wish she'd loan me a few.

I don't think you'd want her friends.

Wanna keep track? Just keep reading her columns -- inevitably, they're all about her friends. Virginia Postrel. Luke Ford. Etc.

You guys do know that "Skippy" is Luke right?

I was reading your marginalia the other day and I couldn't believe that there was someone who's actually signing off as me. I mean, WhyTF would anyone want to impersonate ME of all people? Jesus, sometimes I think the whole anarchic side of the Internet is a bad idea. Although right away, playing on the dark side, the idea of a doppelganger plaguing Roger Simon's blog didn't seem like a bad idea at all...

The Razzies' days may be numbered ... In just a few short years, Rotten Tomatoes has become the de facto stinker barometer for many in the film industry and is turning its annual worst ranked movies celebration into a bigger and bigger PR event. The fact that it is self-generating is of course a sign of the times.

Joseph, are you saying it wasn't you who called me a slut on my blog? Or are you referring to something else?

Rotten Tomatoes, hmmm. There could be something to that. Will check it out for next year.

Wasn't me. But what really rankles is, all the contact info on that post was for me too, which shows some slandrous care in fashioning the slur in question. Someone else once doppeled me in another case on your blog too--I forget to which post though...it was over a month ago.

I'm not concerned though. A man of courage has no need of any particular reputation to defend. I certainly deserve to be thought ill of anyway.

That was me who impersonated Joseph. I had grounds to make my charge, Cathy.

The Razzies pale in comparison to the OTHER bad movie awards out there, The Stinkers. And who doesn't love Rotten Tomatoes. The Stinkers were linking to that great site before the Razzies were. The Razzies do a funny awards show but their ballot is not very well thought out.

Go to http://www.thestinkers.com
and compare for yourself. The Razzies site is barely maintained, The Stinkers seems to have new material every few days.

If Rotten Tomatoes or The Stinkers ever decide to do an awards ceremony, it's all over for the Razzies.
