Garcetti's diary, day 2

Today in Slate, councilman Eric Garcetti reveals that while he represents Silver Lake (and lives in Echo Park), his roots are Val. He grew up in Encino and hung out at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. He also lets out that Sofia Coppola and NPR's Madeline Brand have emailed asking him to help save the Silver Lake Jewish Community Center, and he explains the L.A. city budget (and some of the cinematic history of City Hall).
