A fish story

While Jack Nicholson and friends cheered on the Lakers win tonight in the NBA finals at Staples Center, Jim Hahn and his staff (and a half-dozen or so reporters) watched on a big-screen TV in the downstairs game room at Getty House, the mayor's ceremonial residence. Not as exciting, but they enjoyed better eats than the arena crowd. Hahn invited chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Fenniger of the Border Grill and Ciudad (and formerly of City) to prepare fish tacos with the walleye fillets sent to Los Angeles by the mayor of Minneapolis after the Lakers defeated the Timberwolves. Hahn chatted up the former Two Hot Tamales on the nuances of making gourmet tacos. He woo-hooed along with his deputies when Kobe Bryant sank a clutch three-pointer to tie the game, and stood with a smile on his face during the Lakers romp over the Pistons in OT. The mayor leaves Wednesday for New York to talk up downtown L.A.'s investment potential along with a delegation that includes chief Bill Bratton and Eli Broad.
