Time on their hands

Last Friday, the City Council quietly referred to its education and neighborhoods committee a motion asking the City Attorney's office to prepare an amicus brief for federal court supporting the position that the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance are constitutional. Bit of an odd couple behind the request: Councilman Dennis Zine from the Valley, and newcomer Bill Rosendahl from the Westside.

* Also: The County Board of Supervisors last week ordered their lawyer to draw up a brief.
