The Barbara Bain plot thickens

Barbara Bain as Cinnamon CarterOK, so first the story is reported — back in the 1980s — that a big, fat Sunday Los Angeles Times landed on and crushed a dog belonging to actress Barbara Bain. Then a friend who used to be at the Times emails that he met Bain recently at a party and she said it never happened — her dog got loose and was killed under the wheels of a Times delivery truck. Tragic perhaps, but not the stuff of legend.

Then today, former Times publisher Tom Johnson emails that he remembers it clearly:

As publisher, I was told that our carrier had tossed a heavy Sunday newspaper and that the puppy was discovered beneath the bundle by Barbara herself. In any case, I called her personally and apologized. She did not dispute the original version at the time. I offered to buy her another dog.

Unless Bain wants to clear things up, I stand down on this running story. Bain's IMDb listing.
