LA Biz Observed has followed some of the state budget fallout over there.

  • Cal State university and colleges trustees raised student fees 20% and furloughed employees, as California's higher ed legacy continues to unravel.
  • Budget deal would reduce the prison population by 27,000.
  • The City Council voted to move the date of the Los Angeles Marathon from Memorial Day back to the traditional Sunday in March and change the route to start at Dodger Stadium and end at the beach.
  • City Attorney Carmen Trutanich told the City Council his team's investigation into the Michael Jackson memorial costs "has taken an unanticipated turn that raises both civil and criminal aspects."
