Layoffs day at the L.A. Times

Those on the list are starting to get the word. Elina Shatkin, who wrote for Calendar and The Guide, posted on her Twitter and Facebook feeds that she was tapped on the shoulder this morning.

elinashatkin can now add "former Los Angeles Times staff writer to my resume." I was laid off this morning.

Meanwhile, there's chatter around that the Times is talking to former Washington and Metro staffer Richard Serrano about returning to the paper, possibly to cover the county beat. Serrano, recently cut by the Las Vegas Sun, is the author of "My Grandfather's Prison: A Story Of Death And Deceit In 1940s Kansas City," published in September.
