Los Angeles Police take Lonnie David Franklin Jr.into custody, culminating over two decades of investigation

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Chief Charlie Beck will announce the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a man suspected of killing at least 10 young women in South Los Angeles from 1985 through 2007, on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM, in front of the Los Angeles Police Administrative Building, 100 West 1st Street, Los Angeles 90012.

Lonnie David Franklin Jr., 57, was taken into custody today by Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide detectives, culminating an exhaustive task force investigation that began more than three years ago. Franklin was taken into custody at 9:20 a.m. in front of his home in South Los Angeles and is believed to be responsible for the killing of at least 10 young women over the past 22 years.
