KNBC and Fox 11 have a good night at the Golden Mike awards

This was Golden Mikes night at the at the Universal Hilton. KNBC won Golden Mikes for best daytime and best half-hour newscasts, while KTTV won for best 60-minute newscast. On radio, KNX won the Golden Mike for best newscast over 15 minutes and KFI won for best radio newscast under 15 minutes. The Radio & Television News Association of Southern California also gave Regis Philbin, a former news anchor and host here, its first-ever "Broadcast Legend" award. Longtime anchors Kelly Lange, who retired from KNBC, and Jose Ronstadt, now with Telemundo in Los Angeles, picked up lifetime achievement awards. Full list of winners

And the award for earlier embargo violation...: The RTNA tells stations ahead of time what they won, with a request not to promote the results until after tonight's banquet. Every year some station or show jumps the gun. This year I received press releases from KCET hyping Golden Mikes for "SoCal Connected" at 4 p.m.
